To Readers

“Why this? Why now?” you may ask. This work exists to be read, but it circulates to date in small print runs with narrow markets, so why not use the web? And while COVID-19 and its variants circulated among us at their terrible human cost, we had time on our hands for projects that needed doing. So, I’ve set up this platform to show samples of my work.

Browse your way in at your leisure. Certain subjects here are sobering; may you find them reasonably so. We are bombarded again and again by perilous news, yet there is a room, if we can find it, for art that remembers. And humor. This portal aspires to be such a room.

None of this is remotely equal to what is taking place around us. There are always front lines in a conflict, but few as challenging today as the front lines in medicine, immigration, climate change, and gun controls. In the scale of things what you read here is very rear-guard stuff — what we do when we can’t do more.

Even so, enjoy the lines. They are my music to you in several registers — serious, playful, even whimsical — and my pleasure to give.

Comments are welcome.
